Plastic Surgery???
At Dalian Hoffen Bio-Technique Company in northern China, people turn other people into plastic. Plastination is a four-step process during which polymers replace water and fat molecules in biological specimens.
Plastinated bodies don’t decompose, and museums and medical schools can display them with exposed muscles, veins and brains in exhibits around the world. One such exhibit, called “Bodies,” has visited dozens of cities worldwide since it opened in 2005. Hong-Jin Sui founded the Dalian facility in 2002 after he studied plastination under the man who invented it, Gunther von Hagens. Sui says the human bodies processed at Dalian Hoffen come from medical universities and the animals from zoos and aquariums. It can take more than two years to plastinate large animals, such as whales, but humans take only eight to 12 months.

I have never heard of this before. It seems weird but is also neat. I can also see how it can help us learn about the human body. It is very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI could imagine this being done on animals for research or placing them in museums, but doing this to humans, especially a recently deceased human still being in tact, it just seems a little bit macabre to me. I think when someone dies they should be buried or cremated, not worked on and flashed around like an attraction, but that's just me.
ReplyDeleteI don't think this is a good thing to do to people, how would their family members feel if they knew something like this was happening to them or they're son/daughter was being used as part of a scientific study? People should get to rest in peace, not be made into a plastic display. Autopsy's are done everyday, research on human bodies and animals can be done then, not with something like plastination.
ReplyDeleteI actually think this could be a good idea. With an ability to view the human body properly we could have better museum exhibits. I would actually pay money to view a human in that condition
ReplyDeleteI believe this is a good idea, just like the Egyptians we could have an advanced view of the human internal structure but I believe before a human dies they should have the option of giving their remains to this organization in which they are being used for.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a cool idea, because with these more accurate representations of different organisms we can see and better understand how each of them work.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lydia that this is a good idea and that consent should be given before the person dies. I think that this process could help people study different bodies, that have been through different things, like comparing a smokers body to a non-smokers body etc. People would be able to see what is actually inside of their bodies. It could even help scientists research different effects of medicines or diseases on the inside of a human body.
ReplyDeleteI think this is an amazing idea. Like the video said, students who study the anatomy of humans will receive man-made representations of the make-up of the human body. But this advancement will help researchers all over the world have a better understanding of the processes going on inside us and could possible aid in finding a cure the things suck as cancer and STDs.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this could be both a good and a bad idea at the same time. It could be a good idea bc it would allow us to take a more in depth look at the body systems of humans and animals and how their body works. But it could also be a bad idea bc people may not want their loved ones to be covered in plastic and placed in a museum or exhibit.
ReplyDeleteI believe this is a bad idea showing dead bodies as an attraction is something no one should see. it is almost like we don't let the bodies rest in peace, unless they agree to this before their death
ReplyDeleteI think this is an advancement in technology. This is bit creepy because you would be able to see the muscles and nerves. This could be a danger also because the human body was not meant to be plastic and it would be more fragile.
ReplyDeleteI think the bodies look very wierd in plastic. I think it could help us learn more about our bodies because we can see the muscles and other things that are in our bodies. I think it is very interesting and wierd but also useful.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good idea because it's probably the most accurate way to show things such as the brain or nerve systems in the body which could benefit the learning of many people. I think it shouldn't be something that happens without the person knowing about it, therefore if they are dying and can make the choice themselves, they should. If someone were to die unexpectedly, you should have to get parents consent much like how they deal with organ donating. Though, if this begins to happen more often, it could change many many things in the medical field we have today.
ReplyDeleteI dont think this is a good idea because while someones alive and you ask them can you do this i promise you theyd say no. No one wants to be treated like some animal when they die. Most people just want to die and be pur away forever not turned into plastic. Beside the body would be easily hurt because it will be more flammible and also feel more pain because its plastic so no terrible idea.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good idea because so many discoveries could be made about the human body and its functions. I would love to go see something like this. I do agree with some people on here saying that a consent should be necessary. I think its perfectly okay as long as the deceased person says it is before they die. I want to be an organ doner when I pass away, but if I didn't, I would love to "donate" my body to this experiment.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is beneficial and negative in many ways. It benefits because people studying anatomy can have hands on experience with the human body. This is negative because it is wrong to use people's dead bodies for experiments. In this case I think that the positives overcome the negatives because this can really benefit the study and research.
ReplyDeleteI think that this is a great advancement. Turning the body into plastic allows us to observe and to learn what the body looks like in real life. The video talked about how med students received man-made replications of the body which doesn't really allow someone to completely see how the body works. Turning the body into plastic allows us to see complicated systems, like our nervous system, and to understand what they do. This can also allow us to learn about diseases and what they do to the body, like a smoker's lung.
ReplyDeletei dissagre with Kobe. I don;t think everyone would feel like they are being treated like animals by being turned to plastic. It is a great way to preserve yourself over time and you will always be remebered by this. i would rather be turned to plastic than let rot for years until there is nothing left of me.
ReplyDeleteI believe that if a person chooses to have this done to them, so be it. It's like donating your body to science. I personally would'nt do this but it is a very interesting subject. Like a modern mummification.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very good idea. Many people would get to learn more about the human body and how it functions. I personally would not want to do this. I think it would be cool to see something like this.
ReplyDeleteI believe this could be a great idea. It would really benefit the medical field by allowing them to study how the body really works. Doctors could use these bodies to compare drug and non-drug people and could use that data to show people what drugs really do to people. Doctors could also study the different body types and how their organs differ.
ReplyDeleteI've never really heard of this before. I actually think its acceptable to do this to animals but I think humans is pushing it. I don't know how I would feel if this happened to someone I knew. I don't find it very acceptable for this process to be done on humans at all because I just don't think its right. I understand that it can be very helpful to learn about the human body and how it works but I just don't think I agree with a human being a part of scientific research in this manner.
ReplyDeletePersonally i wouldnt want this to happen to me or any of my friends and family when we die and im sure nobody would want this to happen to their loved ones, but it would be cool to see something like this. Plus, it would help us learn alot more about the human body.
ReplyDeleteI think that this is actually very cool & interesting. This is a great way to see the human body how it actually is on the inside as opposed to plastic models. I personally believe this is a great invention as long as people were fine with their bodies being used. I would also like to see the animals being preserved too.
ReplyDeleteI think this process is cool yet kinda disturbing. It may be the fact that it's a real human body that recently died or maybe that we are at that point in technology where we can preserve people my plasticing them. This is a good way to keep a loved one who has passed close go you and where you can see them. But do you really think that someone who passed would really wanna be preserved this way. All around it has its ups and downs
ReplyDeleteSince its a recently dead body, its a little weird how they are preserving it like that. I dont think its too good of an idea cause people might not like the fact they arent getting burried or cremated. It is a good idea because it will make viewing a body more realistic. The examinations would be better and more accurate.
